No more Gambrels!

WHOLE HOUSE EXTERIOR REFRESH

The project was to bring an original outdated exterior into modern times.  The building had gambrel roofs with awkward dormers and undefined adjacent blank walls. The homeowner wanted to update the aesthetics of the house as well as to include some custom features that fit their lifestyles.

While leaving the actual structure of the house intact, the overhangs and “roofs” acting like walls as part of the gambrel roof system were removed back to the existing wall face.  The existing framing of the continuous shed dormer remained while a new steeper pitched roof and false gable eave were installed to create the illusion of an entire new roof form and massing.  This allowed other design elements to be added such as two new covered porches with arched detailing, an enclosed outdoor shower, new three season porch and modernized window trimming and siding.
