Fresh from the Ashes
NEW CONSTRUCTION
After a fire destroyed this family’s home, while devastating, it was an opportunity to recreate the house to be truly what they wanted and needed. Having lived in the home from its conception, the family and their needs had grown. They now wanted a place that allowed their kids to have their own spaces, better gathering areas, and an exterior that better fit their design aesthetics.
The biggest challenge was to take a one-story home and make it two…. while keeping the existing footprint. The new design relocated the stairs, broke up the single massing roof forms into several varying roof lines, relocated all five bedrooms to the upper level, and added a workshop and blacksmithing shop. The kitchen, primary and guest bedrooms now have vaulted ceilings, allowing for the reconfiguration of the exterior massing. A final request of a large walk-through pantry and multiuser mudroom created spaces that would be heavily trafficked and used.
